Recognition of Study Achievements and Transfer of Credits
Study and examination achievements are recognized upon application by the student if the requirements for recognition are met. Creditable achievements can, among other things, originate from
- early studies
- previous studies (at another university and/or in another subject)
- semesters abroad
- credits from the Master's degree program that were earned in the Bachelor's program but not used for the degree.
If you have creditable achievements, you must submit an application for the transfer of credits in the first semester of study in due time.
Checking Options for the Transfer of Credits
As a rule, you can have study achievements credited to a module from the relevant degree program at the University of Bonn if the competences you have acquired do not differ significantly from those of the module in question.
If you

are about to change university or your degree program or
-
are planning a stay abroad,
then you can obtain information in advance about the transferability of credits.
- To do so, please contact the Bachelor-Master Office Mathematics by e-mail or visit the office hours of the study management.
- In order to be able to check the creditability, we require module descriptions or similar for the courses in question.
- You can either provide these in advance via a link or bring them with you to the consultation in printed or clearly legible electronic form.
- Please understand that it may be necessary to consult experts for a comprehensive examination of the creditability and that an answer may therefore take some time.
If you transfer to the Bachelor's degree program in Mathematics at the University of Bonn with creditable achievements, you will need to be placed in a higher semester:

Application for Recognition
Students of the subject-specific degree programs must submit an application for the transfer of credits to the Bachelor-Master Office Mathematics. Teacher training students require a recommendation from the department for the transfer of mathematics credits at the BZL.
- You can only apply for recognition of study achievements after having enrolled in your new degree program with us.
- To check comparability, please consult the module descriptions of your achievements and our modules in the respective module handbooks before submitting your application.

Students in the programs Bachelor Mathematik and Master Mathematics please use the forms
- Application for the Transfer of Credits (apart from stays abroad)
- Application for the Transfer of Credits from Stays Abroad
Students in the Teacher Training programs please use the form
- 'Empfehlung des Fachbereichs und Bescheid zur Anerkennung '
(to be found on the forms page of the BZL)
If your study achievements have already been checked for eligibility in advance, we require in addition to your application
- the proof of the result of the review.
If your study achievements have not been checked for eligibility yet, we require in addition to your application
- proof that you have completed the courses to be credited (preferably in the form of a current transcript of records)
Exception: The courses are already booked on your student account at the University of Bonn. - detailed course descriptions (e.g. excerpts from the module handbook of the degree program in which the coursework was completed).
Exception: The courses come from a mathematics degree program in Bonn.
The deadlines for the submission of credit transfer applications by students are
- 1st June (summer semester)
- 1st December (winter semester).
Recognized achievements will be entered on your student account after you have registered in the department.
