Alexander West started as a PhD student at the University of Bonn in May 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefan Müller and Dr. Christian Scharrer. He previously received his master degree at the University of Bonn. His research, which is motivated by the study of lipid bilayer cell membranes, focuses on the interplay of the Willmore functional, which measures the total bending of a surface, and constraints including area, enclosed volume and the total mean curvature.
