June 6 - 10, 2022
Lipschitz-Saal (Endenicher Allee 60, Bonn)
Organizers: Franca Hoffmann (Universität Bonn), Martin Rumpf (Universität Bonn)
Description: This school is focused on the theoretical underpinnings of recent methods in machine learning. With many machine learning algorithms entering applications across domains, it is important to provide a rigorous understanding of their behaviors and properties. In this school, we focus on mathematical aspects of machine learning, such as approximation theory for neural network models, graph-based clustering and classification approaches, as well as data-driven methods for solving inverse problems. These approaches make use of techniques from functional analysis, calculus of variations, uncertainty quantification, optimization and network analysis, all combining data-driven approaches with model-driven approaches in ways that allow for rigorous
mathematical analysis.
Key Speakers: The following speakers will give a lecture series:
- Weinan E (Princeton University, USA)
- Carola Schoenlieb ( Jesus College Cambridge, UK)
- Dejan Slepcev (Carnegie Mellon University, USA)
- Rachel Ward (The University of Texas, USA)
Please send applications using the form below. Limited financial support for PhD students and postdocs may be available.
To be considered for participation, a CV and Letter of Intent (1 page) are required, as well as the name and contact information of a potential reference. (At this time, do not request a letter of recommendation.) Only one document can be uploaded, so please combine all documentation into one PDF.
Please note: Everyone interested in participating - disregarding whether there is need for financial support or not - has to register so that the participation may be administered. Everyone will be notified in due time about whether participation and partial financial support is possible.
Late applications may be considered, but to be given full consideration, please complete all information before the deadline.
In case of questions, please contact the organizers at foundationalmethods(at)hcm.uni-bonn.de.
This school is organized in tandem with the HCM Workshop "Synergies between Data Science and PDE Analysis".
