Sam Hughes a Humboldt fellow at Universität Bonn hosted by Professor Giles Gardam. Before this he was a postdoc at the University of Oxford and a PhD student at the University of Southampton. His research is primarily in geometric group theory, often with a topological flavour. More specifically, he is interested in profinite rigidity of groups, Kähler groups, lattices in locally compact groups, quasi-isometries of pairs, (bi)automatic groups, and group cohomology. The latter in relation to finiteness properties, L^2-invariants, torsion homology growth, fibring, and the isomorphism conjectures in K-theory.
