Lennart Machill joined the HCM in October 2024. He is a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Angkana Rüland and completed his PhD at the University of Münster, where he was supervised by Prof. Dr. Manuel Friedrich. His general research interests lie in applied analysis, more precisely in the Calculus of Variations and nonlinear PDEs, with applications to problems in materials science. In particular, his main research questions and mathematical techniques include the analysis and the modeling of (thermo-)viscoelastic materials, (metric) gradient flows, Γ-convergence, linearization and dimension reduction, and geometric rigidity.
