Diversity and Inclusiveness
The Hausdorff Center is striving to create an environment in which people from different backgrounds, with different experiences and of different abilities can thrive. We are committed to working on reducing obstacles and accessibility barriers of all kinds that stand in the way of fully participating in the educational and professional opportunities in our department.
At HCM, we are a very international community of students, faculty, and staff from many different countries, with a diversity of backgrounds, talents and fields of interests. We are lucky to also host many visitors from all over the world that contribute to our culture of lively academic and social exchange.
Many of our initiatives in this area are collaborations with international cooperating partners, the International Office, the Equal Opportunity Committee and representatives of the Department of Mathematics.
Internationalization
We strive to make the Bonn mathematical community welcoming to people from all over the world. Our Master and PhD programs are run in English and host a high percentage of international students. Our faculty members also have a veriety of backgrounds, and many of our programs and initiatives are designed to bring international visitors to Bonn.
Young African Mathematicians
The Young African Mathematicians Fellowship Program is a cooperation with the African Institute for Mathematical Science (AIMS). It enables excellent graduates of the AIMS Master Program to spend an academic year at the HCM in Bonn immersing themselves in the rich and stimulating mathematical environment and working on a research project under the supervision of a mentor.
Diversity Days
Every year the University of Bonn organizes the Diversity Days. In 2024, we will be co-organizing an event in this context.
Ally Day
The annual Ally Day is organized by our students to openly discuss how we can support each other when dealing with issues such as discrimination, mental health issues or the pressures and anxieties associated with academia.
Audio Induction Loop
The lecture room at the Hausdorff Research Institute for Mathematics has been outfitted with an active listening technology system to imcrease the accessibility of our international visitor program for people with limited hearing.
Individual Advice
We understand that different members of out community might face very different obstacles and hurdles and need very different types of support and interventions. Therefore, we are commited to providing individual advice and assistance via our DEI coordinator.
